A Nice Surprise…

The folks over at the Chicago Deli Magazine have put up nominations for Best Emerging Artist of 2009 and Mr. Bear is one of ‘em.

Head on over here: http://chicago.thedelimagazine.com/ to vote. Not sure exactly what the prize is, but just being nominated is pretty cool to me.

In other news, I’m writing pretty steadily and even performed a new track at my last show in Little Rock. Hopefully more to be performed soon.

Hope everyone had a good holiday and are enjoying the new year. It’s cold in Chicago.

Diet Dr. Pepper…

“Tastes more like regular Dr. Pepper than regular Dr. Pepper does.” Poppin’ can #2 right now.

Nother Chicago show coming up.

Oct. 21st
Columbia College
623 S. Wabash
6:00pm
Free.

Gonna be some art there and some music and some students.

In other news, I’m really into Smetana and Ligeti right now.  Very different artists, but both quite inspirational and moving in completely different ways.

I’ve had an enormous amount of work to do this semester and it’s only just begun.  I’ve probably already surpassed the amount of paper work I did all last semester. The positive outcome to this is my brain is getting bigger. The downside is that shows will probably continue to come in sparse doses.  I’ve been having some good breakthroughs with music, though.  Songs are starting to take shape and become presentable.  Maybe soon I’ll perform one or two at a show.

Did it get cold everywhere all of the sudden or is it just Chicago? I’ve never appreciated a heating blanket, but I’ve fallen in love with one over the week. I thought it was broken the other night and my heart sank to the bottom of my stomach. Thankfully it had just come unplugged from itself.

I saw the film Paranormal Activity last weekend and it didn’t have a deep effect on me, but a bag of chips just jumped off of the kitchen shelf right in front of my eyes and it sort of creeped me out.  In the middle of broad daylight, too.  That’s ballsy of you, hungry ghost demon.

Update In Five Chapters

Chapter 1: Reggies Dumb Club
The show at Reggie’s Rock Club went really well. Thanks to everyone who came out. You guys were great. The venue, however, ripped us off and we did not appreciate that so we shall not return to Reggie’s again.

Chapter 2: Nother Show
There’s a new show coming up for you Chicago folks…

SEPTEMBER 14th
The Elbow Room (in the upstairs acoustic lounge)
2871 N Lincoln Ave
Chicago, IL 60657
21+ show (sorry, it’s their rules)

Chapter 3: Prolly Another
Also, keep your eye out for an Arkansas show coming up in the next few weeks. Looking to make that happen quick.

Chapter 4: Broken Links
Some of you may have noticed that the links to purchase These Machines off of MySpace have been broken. Well, I fixed ‘em. MySpace is apparently not about linking straight to Paypal anymore so the links now send you to the Mr. Bear store at Tandem Shop Records.com. There you can make all US or International purchases.

Chapter 5: Inglourious Basterds!
If you haven’t made it out to the theater to see the new Quentin Tarantino masterpiece, Inglourious Basterds, you should because it’s the best thing since sliced bread with oats and grains on the crust. I loved it too much and it’s the inspiration for the format of this update.

Chicago gets it’s first peek

First off… I’m gonna blog more, I think. Right here. And on Twitter. Should be fun.

Secondly…

Mr. Bear acoustic show
Reggies Rock Club
Chicago, IL
Wednesday August 19th\
8:00pm
$8

Playing with a bunch of other bands including Middle Distance Runner. Everyone should come out and see.

Thirdly… I’ve been making a BUNCH of films lately and the music development has been slow, but it’s coming along, let me assure you. Something new music wise will arrive shortly, I’m sure. Maybe till then I can get some of these films online at some point.
